Shot Clock in Kansas?
One time when I was in High School ~10 years ago, our high school went into overtime in a basketball game. Our team proceeded to score, get a stop, and then hold the ball for the remaining overtime clock to seal the win.
Obviously this is an exaggerated use case (although a true story), but it brings up the need for a shot clock which KSHSAA is now considering for the 2022-2023 season.

HS Freshman Feeds the Homeless
Not all heroes wear capes. This has never been me relevant as Javion Napier (freshman at South High) cooks and sells hot dogs and hamburgers. The money goes towards bags full of food, clothing, and toiletries for the local homeless population in Wichita.
Wichita is #3 BBQ city in the US
A recent TripAdvisor article and map showed Wichita coming in at #3 best bbq in the US of A.
This is surprising, but even more surprising is cities like KC, Memphis, and Houston getting left off the list. This led to some hilarious conversations over on twitter:

The Price is Right Live
Coming to Hartman Arena on December 4th is The Price is Right Live.

Did you hear those screams?
Last week we mentioned a mountain lion was spotted in Riverside.
Within a few days of that, screaming sounds were heard in the morning and many people, especially early AM runners, were worried for their safety.
Turns out it's just the sounds of red foxes who are indulging in their mating season.
As Mayor Brandon Whipple puts it, "Good for them."β
Not so Broadway
The City of Wichita is pondering shrinking Broadway down to 3 lanes (from 4).
This would create room for a bike lane on either side.
FOOD
Professional Eater comes town
Randy Santel will be in town this week. He will be visiting Pizza Ranch on Tyler Road, Doo-Dah Diner and Norton's Brewing Company.

The Basketball Tournament (TBT) will be back in Wichita this summer. Wichita set a TBT crowd record of 7184 fans opening night and over 20000 fans over a four day span in 2019.
Shocker fans will be happy to hear that Ron Baker is on the team this year! Although he will not be playing, Ron Baker will serve as the General Manager.
NFL:
βWichitan Xavier Kelly (Former East High Ace and Arkansas Razorback) signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted.

If you ever wanted to work for a professional sports team, now is your shot. The Wichita Wind Surge will host a job fair on Wednesday, May 19th from 3-7PM at the Riverfront Stadium. They are looking for everything from ushers, fan hosts, and cooks to ticket takers and operations.
