Boomerangs
A big problem that Wichita faces is that we export more talent than we import.
Young people get so excited to get out of Wichita instead of planting their flag and trying to make a difference here.
The Greater Wichita Partnership is here to help out. They have partnered with ICT Box for a custom “Boomerang Box” that’s filled with everything to remind people of what makes Wichita special.
If you have a family member or friend who has left Wichita, you can now send them a Boomerang Box to maybe, just maybe convince them to come back home.
I forgot to mention, the first 75 are free, so send one now!

Topgolf got the okay from the FAA and City Council to move forward with construction of their giant nets.
Since Topgolf is close enough to Jabara Airport, the tallest structure allowed was only 75 feet, but the nets are 156 feet tall, so they required special approval.

Bridge the Divide
StoryCorps brought One Small Step to the Wichita area.
One Small Step hopes to bring people with opposing viewpoints together to have civilized discussion, unlike what we’re fed via traditional media.
Wichita is a test market for these convos. They record a 40-minute discussion to (hopefully) find common ground based on different opinions, including politics.
LOCAL
Burning Man Vibes
Tribal Roots is a 7 member arts collective. They throw some crazy events that combine lasers, music, and art for a unique experience.
The inspiration? Burning Man itself. If you haven’t heard of Burning Man, just google it.

Empowered vs Empower
Wichita has a lot of great nonprofit organizations.
Recently, two rebranded.
- Empowered (formerly Youth Entrepreneurs) helps provide support for teachers and educators to help students find their innate abilities
- Empower (formerly Empower Evergreen) is expanding beyond it’s former geographic limits to improve and connect services in town.
Funny enough, both are backed by Charles Koch.
Derby Hike/Bike Trail
A big complaint in Kansas is there aren’t enough outdoor activities to do.
We don’t have oceans or mountains, but we can make the best of what we do have.
The city of Derby was awarded $210,000 in cost share funds to help fund a 8 foot wide hike and bike trail.
